I am trained to be an artist jeweller,
working with silver and gold.
Soldering, sawing, filing, hammering,
and pickling are part of this trade of old.
I love the flash of solder flowing,
An annealed piece of metal glowing,
And the joy of knowing
I am imitating my Creator in part
By working on a form of art.
Adornment may seem a silly thing,
Whether to wear a gold or silver ring.
Finding beauty in form and show,
Is not vanity I know, unless the wearer makes it so.
I also love to draw the human face,
especially people of another race.
My dream is of travelling,
settling sometimes in another place.
Making a book of how people look,
the homeless, the sheltered, the king, the crook.
They'll all be a part of the pictures my pencils took.
